February Newsletter

In 2024, our commitment to ease the financial burdens for families across our community remains unchanged. I recognize the economic strains many of you face, and I am dedicated to implementing policies that not only foster fiscal responsibility, but also actively contribute to the financial well-being of each resident.

While our focus on making your dollar go further is central, I want to emphasize three key areas where our efforts will make a significant impact: housing, homelessness, and healthcare.

Housing: Affordable and accessible housing is the bedrock of vibrant communities. In the coming year, I will champion policies that promote housing affordability, tackle housing shortages, and ensure that every resident, regardless of background or income, has a secure and safe place to call home.

Homelessness: The issue of homelessness demands our urgent attention, and I am actively engaging with stakeholders, local organizations, and experts to find compassionate and effective solutions. We will address homelessness in a way that respects the dignity of every individual affected.

Healthcare: Accessible and affordable healthcare is a fundamental right. I am dedicated to improving healthcare infrastructure, advocating for healthcare affordability, and supporting initiatives that prioritize the health and well-being of our residents.

Over the coming months, I look forward to sharing with you the details of specific bills and legislative proposals that will bring these commitments to life. Your input on these matters is invaluable, and I encourage you to share your thoughts, concerns, and ideas with my office.

Thank you for entrusting me with the privilege to serve you. Together, let us make 2024 a year of progress, compassion, and financial security for all!

MLK JR. Day Of Service

Last month, we held an amazing Day of Service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy!

Our success was due to the collaboration with the NAACP Santa Clarita Branch and the Boys & Girls Club of the Santa Clarita Valley.

More than 70 community members joined forces to make a positive impact, crafting 250+ sandwiches for Bridge To Home and Hope The Mission. We also spread love with heartfelt cards and added a splash of color to the Boys and Girls Santa Clarita headquarters. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making a positive impact on our community! Check out all our photos from our Day Of Service HERE.

Top 51 Most Influential of 2023

Pilar Schiavo

I am honored to be recognized on The SCV Signal’s Top 51 Most Influential of 2023 list!

It’s such a joy to represent our community and I greatly appreciate this recognition for the important work we have done in AD40. Together, we’ve brought home a record $20 million investments and moved bills forward to protect our water, seniors, and address our housing, homelessness and healthcare affordability crisis. I am committed to building on this momentum for a brighter future and eager to continue working together to build an AD40 that works for all!

LA Homeless Count

Our District Office staff was out in full force for the LA Homeless Count in Northridge & Porter Ranch. Participating in this annual census allows us to better understand the needs of our unhoused neighbors and how to be effective in moving folks out of homelessness and into housing for good.

Select Committee on Native American Affairs

We joined with Assemblymember James Ramos for our Select Committee on Native American Affairs to assess the implementation of the Feather Alert on its 1-year anniversary.

Oversight hearings like this ensure the laws we pass have the intended impact and are critical to help us make needed improvements. Together, we’re dedicated to ensuring the safety of all indigenous communities.

AB 1333

Photo

Corporations should not be able to buy homes out from under families struggling to find housing that’s affordable - that’s why I’m co-authoring AB1333. Too many people in our community who have raised their families here now have grown children unable to afford to stay here. Now is the time to prioritize access to home ownership. You can watch my full floor presentation on the legislation HERE.

Homeowners Resource Fair

Speaking of home ownership, we hosted a Homeowners Resource Fair with Assessor Jeff Prang, Supervisor Katherine Barger, and Board of Equalization Member Tony Vasquez! More than 300 participants joined us for an informative session, empowering our community with valuable education programs that will help in their dream of owning a home.
